Darijo Mišković was born on 17 September 1978 in Dubrovnik in the Republic of Croatia.
After completing primary school in Dubrovnik, he attended the secondary Maritime technical school in Dubrovnik. He then enrolled for undergraduate study of nautical studies at the Polytechnic of Dubrovnik, which he completed in 2000 with the defence of his dissertation and was awarded the title of maritime traffic engineer.
In 2011, he enrolled at the undergraduate programme in Nautical Studies at the University of Dubrovnik, which he completed in 2012 with the defence of his Bachelor’s thesis and obtained the title of University Bachelor Maritime Engineer. In 2012, he enrolled in graduate studies at the University of Dubrovnik, which he completed in 2014 with the defence of his master’s thesis and the acquisition of the title of Master of Maritime Engineering. Since 2015, he has been a teaching assistant at the University of Dubrovnik and has enrolled in the postgraduate doctoral programme in Maritime Studies at the Faculty of Maritime Studies in Rijeka. In 2019, he defended his dissertation entitled “Organisational model of ship safety management with emphasis on container ships” at the Faculty of Maritime Studies at the University of Rijeka and obtained his doctorate in the scientific discipline of technical sciences, the scientific field of traffic technology and transport.
In 2000, he began working as a deck cadet on container ships and bulk carriers. By passing the exam in 2001, he acquired the title of deck officer and by passing the captain’s exam at the Dubrovnik Harbour Master’s Office in 2010, he acquired the title of first deck officer. From 2002, he sailed as a deck officer on vessels carrying containers, crude oil, petroleum products and liquefied gases. In 2010, he obtained a Master certificate of 3,000 GT or more.
Since 2010, he has been a government official at the Ministry of Sea, Transport and Infrastructure as a Nautical Officer at the 2nd type post in the Department of Maritime Traffic Management and Surveillance, Search and Rescue Affairs at the Dubrovnik Harbour Master’s Office, and since 2012 as a VTS and SAR Coordinator at the National Centre for Maritime Traffic Surveillance and Management – VTS Centre Dubrovnik. During his work at the Ministry of Sea, Transport and Infrastructure, he acquired the qualification to work on the VTMIS system for maritime traffic control.
From January 2015 to October 2019 he worked as an assistant at the Maritime Department of the University of Dubrovnik and from November 2019 to March 2022 as a post-doc. Since April 2022 until today, he has been working as an assistant professor at the Faculty of Maritime Studies at the University of Dubrovnik.
He teaches the following courses: ‘Basics of Shipping’, ‘Basics of Navigation’, ‘Ship Maintenance’, ‘Voyage Planning’, ‘Watchkeeping, Surveillance and Safety’, ‘Ship Maintenance and Inspections’ and ‘Transportation Technology of Liqueified Cargoes’. He is fluent in written and spoken English.
